Free Masterclasses this summer!

Peterborough Buildings in Need Masterclasses 2012

All the dates for the 2012 Masterclasses are now finalised, see below for information on what free events we have coming up! Also mark your diaries for the celebration event marking the end of the project.

Events will be posted up on the ‘Events page’ as soon as they are finalised. Please check back or email alice.kershaw@peterborough.gov.uk for more details and to be put on a mailing list. For previous events check out the Resources section and drop down menu.

All events are free and need to be booked in advance. After the events notes and resources will be put on this site.

20th April: Legislation and ‘At Risk’ Masterclass with Shape East, FREE

Legislation and Historic Buildings: Help or Hindrance?

Friday 20th April 2012

2-5pm

The afternoon session will provide professional and engaging advice on the role of legislation for ‘at risk’ and historic buildings, using debate and case studies to discuss, challenge and put into practice our current legislative dilemmas.

Topics to be discussed:

The ‘at risk’ designation and its meaning.

How current legislation affects historic buildings.

How legislation can help but also hinder historic and ‘at risk’ buildings and local built environments more generally

How the UK’s legislation differs from that of its European counterparts and how this might affect a rethink of our current status quo

28th April 2-5 pm Walking Tour Masterclass, FREE

Find out how to put together your own walking tour, of a place or of an individual property, with the creator of Peterborough’s popular ghost walks. Great for increasing your presentation skills and confidence talking to the public!

19th May 2 -4 pm Peterborough Local Studies Archives Masterclass, FREE

23rd May – 2-5pm Maintenance and Building Usage Masterclass, FREE

with Shape East, location TBA

24th May Bats and Historic Buildings Masterclass 6-7.30 pm FREE

with James Fisher, Wildlife Officer, Peterborough City Council , location: St Pegas Church, Peakirk

Find out about bats, where they live, how to encourage them and work around them. The evening will also show you how to spot bats in the stunning surroundings of St Pega’s Church. Timings subject to change. Booking essential. alice.kershaw@peterborough.gov.uk

Thursday June 28 Buildings in Need Celebration Event, FREE

St Johns Church Peterborough City Centre

A free event open to all, come along and find out about the Heritage Lottery Funded Buildings in Need Project, which has been running  in Peterborough since October 2011. See the results of the surveys and learn about what makesPeterborough’s historic core great. Stalls, talks and events on the night, light refreshments available.
